About a week ago, when we were at the habitat 67 wave together and I was surfing it on my Stand Up Paddleboard, he asked if he could try it. After watching him fall off the board a dozen times just trying to stand in the flatwater, I suggest he rope onto the wave, stand up and then get a feel for surfing with a paddle. He did, and came back all smiles - hooked.
"The feeling of surfing and turning with the paddle is awesome" he said.
Now of course he has to learn how to stand and paddle the board so he can catch it paddling on, and he's been coming out with me for flatwater sessions on the Lachine Canal to learn how to paddle and control, and ballance, the board.
He's now at the point where he can catch the wave on his knees and then get up, and the rest is bound to follow... but hes been going with the SUP to Habitat 67 on a regular basis now.
Here are some shots of him on a 9'6".
