Love the Pintail

Confession... I have not been kayaking for 1.5 years, because surfing and SUP have taken over my life. However, I finally got out again yesterday on the Eel River in N. Cali, and had a blast. It's so nice to be on a river where you are stoked to be around other people, as opposed to the surf where everything is so competitive.

I really enjoyed kayaking in the Dragorossi Pintail. I think this is the most underrated river-running playboat on the market. It's fast, forgiving, and surfs like a dream. It seems like a lot of companies are coming out with longer boats that aren't creekers, and the Pintail fits this mold. However, unlike those other boats, the Pintail will still cartwheel and go vert fairly easily. At 7'4", it is fast enough to catch a lot of waves, but short enough that it won't purl except on the steepest waves. If you get it on a green wave with some speed, it will carve the most beautiful turns with lightning fast edge-to-edge transitions and rail and rocker shape that generates a lot of speed on edge. In fact, there has probably never been a better boat for 'soul surfing' ever made.

My only complaint is that the stern doesn't squirt as well as the old-school slicy playboats. I miss that aspect of river-running playboating quite a bit. Squirt, splat, surf, repeat. Maybe Dragrossi will release an update to the Pintail? It seems like there is a market for a boat like that right now.

I'm curious... who else loves their Pintail?

I loved my Pintail, but am loving the MadBoy even more! I was in the Grand Canyon last month and had some fairly high water due to a once in a hundred year storm and it was awesome!
