- We are organizing our annual BBQ again this weekend (unless there is rain on which case we will postpone it until June 27). Every year we try to do something for the surfing community, and this year we want to raise awareness to climate change, and have put into place a program for Montreal surfers to go carbon neutral. So come down and get a hot dog, offset your carbon footprint, and enter to win a surfboard and other cool goodies.
- Boy, is this board fun... it seems like everyone who tries it comes back, all thumbs saying "This thing rocks". I would never have guessed that a board shape would cause so much stir and interest.
- I want to take the SUP to the next level, and have started to work on a Flux Core version of the boards. This is going to be a long process of development, but I'm getting started now......
- We're working on a series of T shirt designs... this is the first one. As you can see, its like something out of a Video Game - wii meets surfing! Of course, we'll need one for the surfers "vengeance" against the SUPers shirt too... all in good time.
- While it wasn't the sunniest of days, it was warmer than usual, and a great opportunity to go out for a paddle, and get Andreannes SUP skills up to scratch.
- Here are some pictures of Imagine Surfboards athlete Julien Fillion in Maui - surfing Hokipa on a big day when only Eraldo Gueiros was willing to go out with him.
- We're working on a batch of boards for the Santa Barbara SUP shop, surfingsports.com, and I figured I'd put up some pictures of the boards in the making.
- I got some great studio shots today of fellow surfer Andreanne Dumas. It was pretty fun taking them, and I think they came out great. Shes a beautiful woman, as well as being an awesome surfer... and a lot of fun to shoot whether that's on the water or off.
- That's right - Montreal Surfer Julien Fillion spent the better part of this year training for Jaws at the riverwave Maverics in Montreal, getting ready for his Hawaii trip. We were supposed to go together, but unfortunately business needs kept me here. So he's been there surfing and having a ball. Then today... he posted these pictures of his big wipeout on Jaws.
He said this: "On smaller days at Peahi, one part of the training is to take off deeper, and cutback high on the wave... On this wave I cu way to high behind the peak, then the wave jacket up and it was already too late.
Wiping out on smaller days (still pretty big waves) is an very important part of the big wave training."
- Surfing Sports in Santa Barbara has picked up the Imagine Surfboards SUP line, and they just received their first Cutback 9'. They'll be getting in a whole bunch more in about 6 weeks.
- Here is some information on my 3-piece surfboard for versatile airline travel... or actually for anyone even if not traveling who can't afford to buy 4 boards and wants "one to do it all".
- We just shipped Julien Fillions Rhino Chaser SUP to Maui. He'll be there for two months riding big waves (tow in stuff - we got him a tow-in board as well) and a few SUP's for surfing some of Maui's big breaks.
- The goal is to make an SUP which makes GETTING OUT through the surf easier, yet to have a performance board once on the wave. As any shaper will tell you, when it comes to boards and design, there are no free lunches. Invariably you rob Pete to pay Paul, but it's that game of considered compromises that we play. What am I getting for what I'm giving up. The goal of the Chopper is to create a board that paddles out well, and rides like a shortboard once in the wave...
